Caring for Embroidered and Crochet Shaylas

Start with the individual care instructions, then protect embroidery and crochet during washing, drying and storage.

Start with the instructions for your individual shayla, not the fabric name alone. Embroidery, crochet or beads can change how a piece should be handled. Keep the product guidance, and check the care label where there is one before cleaning.

Before washing

  • Read the instructions on the piece's page; some pieces add their own instructions to the general recommendation.
  • Check the edges and decoration for a caught thread or loose bead. Do not pull the thread.
  • If instructions conflict or are unclear, ask us with the product code through our contact page before washing or ironing.

Examples from Shailah collections

Munira MN1-02 is made from Duja Al-Lail with black work on all four edges, and its description recommends hand washing to keep the piece in good condition for longer. Hab Al-Saad SHQ-04, a Duja Al-Lail piece with raised work on one side, lists hand washing in cold water and drying flat away from direct sunlight.

These instructions are specific to these two pieces; every product page also shows a general recommendation of hand washing in cold water and air drying.

Protect the details while wearing and washing

Embroidered and crochet pieces need gentler handling during wear and storage. When you put on or adjust your shayla, avoid pulling directly on embroidery points or knots. Where hand washing is permitted, handle embroidery and crochet gently without rubbing or stretching them.

Do not choose an ironing temperature from the fabric name alone, and do not place an iron directly on beads or decoration. If ironing guidance is absent, ask before using heat or steam.

Drying and storage

Follow the piece's drying method and let it dry fully before storing. Keep it in a dry place, folded or hung in a way that does not press on raised work, and away from zips or accessories that could catch the threads. For travel, use a clean pouch with enough room rather than packing it tightly.

What about a stain or pulled thread?

Avoid experimenting with bleach, home mixtures or vigorous rubbing. Ask about the particular piece and stain, and consult a specialist where needed. Do not cut a pulled thread before checking whether it is part of the embroidery or crochet.

Is there one washing method for all embroidered and crochet shaylas?

Every Shailah product page shows a general recommendation: hand washing in cold water and air drying. Some pieces add their own instructions, such as Hab Al-Saad SHQ-04, whose page recommends drying flat away from direct sunlight, so follow the piece's instructions where they exist. If instructions conflict, ask with the product code before washing.

Can I iron a beaded embroidered shayla?

Do not place the iron directly on beads or decoration, and do not choose the heat from the fabric name alone. If the piece's instructions give no clear ironing method, ask before using heat or steam.

How should I store an embroidered or crochet shayla?

Once it is fully dry, keep it in a dry place, folded or hung without pressure on raised work, and away from zips or accessories that could catch the threads.

What if my piece arrives in an incorrect condition?

Send your order number with clear photos of the issue by WhatsApp or email, so the Shailah team can review it and help with the appropriate next step. Details are on our Care and Quality page.
